Why Cold Weather Is Hard on Standard Mounting Hardware
The adhesive tape and plastic clips that ship with most Govee kits are designed around moderate temperatures. Adhesive backing needs a certain surface and air temperature to bond properly, typically above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Below that, the bond is weaker from day one, and it only gets worse. Plastic clips also become more brittle in cold weather, which means the flexing that already causes them to loosen over a season happens faster and more severely when temperatures swing between freezing nights and sunny afternoons.
None of this is a knock on Govee. It is simply a mismatch between plastic and adhesive mounting hardware and the climate a lot of us live in. If you are in Minnesota, the upper Midwest, or anywhere with a real winter, this is worth planning around.
Screw-Mounted Aluminum Track Does Not Have This Problem

Check Your Fascia Material
Wood, composite, and metal all respond differently to fasteners in cold weather. Purchase screws appropriate for your specific substrate, and follow the manufacturer's recommendations for that material. Composite trim in particular can be more prone to cracking in cold temperatures if you overtighten.
Handle the Track Gently
Powder-coated aluminum is durable, but any material is a little less forgiving of impact in cold weather. Set track sections down rather than dropping them, and avoid flexing sections more than necessary during install.
Plan Your Wire Run Before You're on the Ladder
