Active work is a couple of hours for a typical home's worth of track: cleaning, scuffing, priming, and two coats of color. The bulk of the time is waiting for primer and paint to dry and cure between steps, so plan across a day or two rather than trying to rush it.

Stainless steel is overkill for permanent lighting mounting. It's heavier, more expensive, harder to work with, and offers no real benefits for this application. Composite materials (fiberglass-reinforced polymers) are sometimes used and can perform well, but they're typically more expensive than aluminum without offering meaningful durability advantages.

The base aluminum is functionally similar. We use the same alloy family and powder coating process that the premium brands use. The main difference is GlowTrax is engineered specifically to retrofit Govee permanent lights, while Trimlight and Jellyfish use proprietary channels designed for their own light systems. PVC track (like PermTrack and similar products on AliExpress) is the lowest-cost option in the permanent lighting track category. It works, but it can become brittle over years of UV exposure and isn't paintable in the same way aluminum is. Generic aluminum channel from home improvement stores is built for indoor LED strip lights and is not designed for the spacing or mounting needs of Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights. It also doesn't include corner pieces, hinges or end caps. GlowTrax is precision-formed aluminum specifically for Govee permanent lights, comes powder-coated, is paintable and ships as a complete kit.

Side by side at night, you'd be hard pressed to tell which system is which.

That's a real benefit. Trimlight specifically offers a lifetime warranty on the LEDs. Govee offers a standard manufacturer warranty, typically 1 to 2 years.
